St Cuthbert’s Society Boat Club

St Cuthbert’s Society Boat Club (SCSBC) is one of Durham University’s student-led rowing clubs, based on the River Wear. We welcome students of all experience levels, from complete beginners to seasoned athletes. Our fleet consists mostly of sweep boats, with a single and double for sculling as well.

St Cuthberts have our own boathouse with an erg room and good sized fleet of boats including 8s, 4s, and small boats. We have the largest boathouse of any college and are able to do almost all our training there.

Over the last year both Mens and Women’s squads have seen successes with wins at all the Regattas we competed at in the summer concluding with a big win for our top women’s 4+ at Durham Regatta. Both of our squads will continue to be competitive against other colleges and local teams. Our novices quickly progress and are able to compete as seniors by the end of their first year of rowing.

Alongside our rowing squads, we have a coxing squad that is captained by students as well. We cherish our community, and take great pride in having the best boat house in Durham!

We host land training sessions in our boat house, consisting of rowing machine sessions, fitness circuits, and sometimes group runs. Commitment to training is flexible for each athlete, with training rarely being mandatory for all.
